The characters, Patrick and Nualla make a lot of mistakes, but in the end they always seem to find their way back to each other. I wanted to capture that moment when you know that not everything is perfect but at least it will be okay. Another artist may have painted a rainy evening in the city in dreary muted tones, but that’s not how I see it. To me the city never seems to look more beautiful than when it is raining.

The moment before a kiss is like a metaphor for a relationship. At first you’re hesitant, and a little afraid, but eventually you just have to let go and trust that the other person will be there to catch you. In this piece Patrick has reached that stage—that trusting moment—before Nualla has. While this image doesn’t portray an exact scene from the book it does convey the mood I was trying to get across.
